Alright, sit down. Captain Donaldson said as he walked through the door in the back of the room. The assorted troops started to make their way in the seats as the Captain moved to the podium.
SIS recently acquired this footage of an ambush by Imperial Intelligence, or I2, on a squad of troopers patrolling in the Labor Valley district. From the mechanics of the ambush it is quite obvious that I2 had them under surveillance for quite some time. Members of the platoon of this squad said their squad commander, Sgt. Tracy, did regular patrols and was not very good in varying their route. There is no after action training correction for Sgt. Tracy since he dies in this holo.
Kill the lights in the back. With that Donaldson turns towards the holo projection in the center of the room. The video clicks on with a distant shot of a standard squad of 7 troopers moving through an urban area. They are spread out in the tactical offset with a trooper on alternating sides of the street. They move up the street, and keep a decent awareness of their surroundings. The video cuts to a second angle that shows a right intersection. The video is taken from an elevated position some distance from the squad but zoomed in for viewing. The squad has not made it to the intersection yet and it appears as though the camera operator is waiting for them. The quality of the video is a bit grainy, which is meant that is was lower quality to allow for a micro transmit burst that would keep detection to a minimum. This was meant to be watched by someone else.
The squad enters into view, the first trooper moves around the inside corner to hold the intersection. Another trooper moves on the outside side and moves down into the street. Slowly the rest of the squad starts to move into view as they move through the L intersection.
This is where the primary engagement happens. The first shot, as you can see, the video shows a shot from a rifle strikes what appears by the uniform is the squads medic. The shot is low, towards the abdomen, pelvic area and drops the trooper to the ground. is to elicit a response Donaldson finished. The troopers In the video go into immediate action drills. They start firing into locations that would most likely protect a sniper and immediately take cover. As you can see from the video this sniper is good, his distance is much farther than the troopers thought. From the video you can see them engaging areas much closer than the actual snipers position. From the shot placement he intended the downed trooper to draw other troopers from cover to attempt to rescue him since it is obvious that he is calling for help and in a lot of pain. The troopers did good in not falling for the bait. He would have surely picked off anyone that attempted a rescue. It is this next part that is more concerning.
As the troopers react to the contact they move towards areas of cover. This I2 operative picked his location because during an ambush it only provides two logical areas of cover and concealment. He knew from experience how we would react and what we would do. You can see what happens when the troopers move to cover.
The video shows it. The troopers move towards what the Captain said would be obvious positions of cover. As the troopers fill into the cover two separate explosions send dirt dust and debris from where the troopers once were. The explosions are devastating and move across both sides of the street. A cloud obscures the view of the intersection. We estimate that blast killed three of the remaining troopers and severely wounded the other three.
The video stutters a bit and then shows the sniper taking a final shot towards the downed medic. As the dust clears several other blaster shots can be seen. A second human, most likely another operative moves from behind the squad. The video cuts back to a more ground view, behind the squad and closer to the time of detonation. It shows a human dressed in black fatigues with a black helmet moving from cover and start engaging to wounded troopers. A second figure, what appears to be a mandolorian also moves towards the wounded troopers. The troopers are obviously wounded and attempt to mount a defense but are quickly overwhelmed. The troopers are downed and then shot again as the I2 operative and the mando move through the squad. The video shows them doing a quick check of the downed squad for intelligence before cutting out.
This occurred 18 days ago. We didnt know much of the attack until SIS found a mole in Imperial Operations. Apparently an Imperial Army Liaison supply officer who has a taste for the odd befriended a Twilek dancer, and as we all know. The Captain slightly lowered his head and raised his hands with palms up to elicit a response from the audience, You can never trust a Twilek the crowd responded.
Exactly. This particular Twilek took it to a new level, not only was she on SIS payroll, she was a double agent for I2 and also sold info to the hutts for supply raids. SIS got hip, raiding the Twileks home on Correllia and Nar Shadaa. They recovered this video.
So from the video it shows a very capable sniper and an I2 direct action team, which SIS designated Red Group 26. SIS also did some digging, and they identified the actual shooter. SIS doesnt know his correct name but in the circles of I2 on Corellia he is called Peremo. It apparently means massacre. Peremo is the head of this RG 26, which dont confuse the direct action tag, they are definitely a black group. SIS has RG26 working with aliens, something that is definitely not Imperial SOP. We have identified at least one Mando in the video, the second OP which we havent IDed yet. SIS also has a Sith, which apparently is not attached to the Sith Council. This group is definitely outside the box. The video shows that they know Republic tactics and techniques. They are technically proficient with explosives and at least the Peremo guy is a very good shot. That shot he took is estimated at over 1400 meters, and in an urban area.
From the attack and the video we can see that they are a patient group. They must have been following this particular squad for several weeks. They could have just attacked and taken their chances and withdrawn, but they waited until they had a shot to wipe out the squad. That makes them extremely deadly.
That brings us to the second part. After the ambush Command put out an order to mix up patrol routes and vary areas of operations. Four days ago there was another ambush, this time in the Government District. The initial squad reported being pinned down with sniper fire, losing two troopers. They called for the QRF to support them. The QRF moved along the road to the endangered squad. The QRF was two walkers with a responding gunship were that 20 minutes away. From the recovered CAM TRACK that is installed on the walkers, it shows this.
A second video crackled onto screen. The quality was higher, and it was quad monitored out to show the front, sides and rear of the walkers. The video shows the walkers moving in a convoy configuration down a street. There is a glimpse of a mandolorian stepping from cover and firing some sort of a shoulder fired rocket towards the rear walker. The round detonates the walker which drops mid stride onto the ground. The camera view shutters and then picks back up from the first walker. There is initially only a few sounds of blaster fire, but in the video multiple troopers can be seen exiting around the walker and the sound of blaster fire picks up. There is a second and then a third explosion and the camera view shakes and then shutters to focus under the debris.
The bastards used thermo charges in the surrounding structures. Once the troopers dismounted to protect the fallen walker they were peppered with charges. They were immediately engaged from both sides and the rear. The rear engagement seems to have been aimed at clearing the 2nd walker. The entire QRF would have been wiped out if not for an SIS Contractor group in a safe house about two miles from the engagement. They heard the all call for help and came out and engaged the Imps from the rear. The Imps definitely did not expect that, and quickly collapsed to regroup and bugged out. Those SIS guys saved about a dozen lives. The squad, wasnt so luckly.
The squad had already suffered two losses by the time they called for support. They didnt have much of a chance. The airship was reroute once the QRF site was secured. They took 4 additional losses, 3 KIA and one WIA. They said they were lucky to be alive that sniper was just on them.
So Captain collected himself and announced we need to get these guys. SIS has been digging and digging and they cannot find anything on Peremo. The guys a fucking ghost. We do know he did some heavy lifting in I2, but other than that we are at a loss. Currently SIS is working on the Mando angle, we all know they cant keep their mouths shut. Hopefully we will have some ID here shortly and work from there. In the meantime, I want you guys out digging for anything. This group likes to setup in an area. Get into your assigned areas, talk to people, look at sites and work with the local units. Our job is to make this end, and you will accomplish that.
Suit up gentleman, you have a job.
