The claw had impaled Ellos through the chest.
With a deadly strike, the Colicoid Queen pierced through his durasteel armor before casting him aside into the walls of the complex. His body laid battered and bloodied upon the ground, faintly breathing as the rest of his squad continued their assault upon the hive queen.
The vicious insect race, the Colicoids, had infested a Republic research facility on Balmorra. Within days they built their nests seamlessly within the artificial structures. A transmission was sent to Alpha Company and a squad was swiftly deployed to handle the situation. The operation was straight forward; infiltrate the Colicoid hive, neutralize the source of the infestation, and find any survivors.
There were never any survivors. Even the smallest glimmer of hope was extinguished by what was found. The gruesome remains of the facility’s scientists and survey trooper T4-116 could barely be identified as humanoid. They had been savagely torn to pieces and feasted upon by their attackers. Evidence of their futile struggle to survive littered the area; scorch marks from blaster fire, nail marks on sealed doors that were thought to lead to safety, and splotches of blood plastered across the walls. It was a grisly sight to behold.
It only furthered the resolve of the troopers of Alpha Company. They could not let the infestation spread or the men, women, and children of Balmorra would suffer the same horrific fate. Together, with a local soldier, they delved straight into the heart of the hive.
Swarms of Colicoids descended upon them. They scampered from their nests and emerged from their burrows with the single minded instinct to kill. Alpha Company met them with hails of blaster fire and explosives. The bolts of energy ripped through their bodies by the dozens and the thermal detonations killed dozens more.
Defeating wave after wave of the creatures; Alpha Company finally reached the deepest depths of the hive. Sergeant Major Rux, leader of the team, ordered Sergeant Ellos Sunrion to take the squad to deal with the source of the infestation. The squad complied and hurried off, leaving the Sergeant Major and Lieutenant Viozaer to fend off a frenzied swarm of Colicoid soldiers.
It wasn’t long before the squad found the source. The Colicoid Queen stood within the center of a large chamber. The twenty foot tall behemoth was a terrifying sight to behold. It had two scythe-like claws for arms, each the size of a full grown man. A massive stinger protruded from a grotesque bloated abdomen, no doubt the source of the creature’s eggs. If the planet was to be saved the Queen had to be exterminated.
And so they began their assault. Flurries of blaster fire pelted the creature; but its thick carapace was a strong defense against even the most brutal attacks. The Queen was strong and surprisingly fast; in mere moments it was upon Ellos. Despite his best efforts to evade its attacks, the Queen struck a claw straight through his chest.
What happened after that was a blur to the trooper. The dying screeches of the Queen as it was brought down. The Sergeant Major shouting orders to pull out. Del’lantam, the Twi’lek trooper, supporting Ellos through the passageways as Private Texos attempted to stabilize his wounds. The evac shuttle…
It was all just a fading light.
