Contact Report:
Enemy Encountered: The New Era alliance lead by Hrokkvir <Reign> consists of <Seelund Cartel>, <Sons of Korriban>, <Penumbral>, <The Imperial Military>, <Clan Desh'ar>, <Apocalyptic Harbingers>, <Clan Rodarch>, <Dark Brethren>, <Sith'ari Templars>
Friendly/Neutral Encountered: Ashren and Daxon, <Seelund Trading Company>, <Marine Expeditionary Unit>, about 4-5 other pugs
Contact Summary: Alpha Company formed up on Corellia with its allies after being given word that Hrokkvir's alliance of factions, The New Era had just attacked and ransacked the Bastion on Corellia and we had arrived too late to stop them.
A local group, the Seelund Cartel, who had been working for Hrokkvir up til now had communicated to us their wish to defect now that he has attacked their homeworld. We needed to intercept the Imperials as their team made their way back to their base in the area and extract the Seelunds. If we could shoot the Seelunds with stunbolts then the New Era wouldn't be able to bring them along as they made their escape. The members in need of extraction were Aurhia Seelund, Qora, Blake and Ei'leen.
Two jedi volunteers headed out to scout the Imperial force and found the enemy near the Bastion. Our main force headed out to intercept the enemy on their way back but was just short of catching them. What followed was a long speeder chase throughout the Government District.
We managed to shoot down several speeders along the way and extracted three of the four VIPs before they reached the base. Qora got away.
The Imperial's shuttle offworld had been shot down during the chase, so once they arrived at their base they had to wait forty-five minutes for a new one to arrive. That would give us the time we needed to accomplish the primary objective for the day. Killing Hrokkvir.
Without him, the New Era would fall apart and the invasion would end. While the rest of us worked to distract his forces, a small strike team attempted to assassinate Hrokkvir and end this.
Our scouts had severe difficulty finding Hrokkvir for the first thirty minutes. Thus the first few assaults were futile and mostly for the purpose of distracting the enemy forces from seeking out our scouts.
Once we found him we mounted an assault on the north west entrance to the base while the strike team snuck in the south east entrance and attacked Hrokkvir. Hrokkvir was gravely wounded but managed to put up a force barrier and then run away.
No major opportunity on his life appeared after that. The day ended in a loss for the Republic.
Positive Points:
The event had an amazing turnout from both sides
Negative Points:
Instance lockout
One of our strike team members had a thunderstorm that prevented login
One of our two major allied guilds was a no-show entirely
We had several sore loosers after the event
Overall Assessment and Recommendation:
This was a perfect storm of unfortunate coincidences.
Several reinforcements for the second half of the event were locked out of the instance. The three freed Seelund VIPs were unable to swap sides and continued fighting on the Imperial side. Clan Rodarch who wished to swap sides to make the numbers more even for part 2 were unable to do so and continued fighting for the Empire. Some of our own members were unable to rejoin us after disconnecting due to instance lockout. The popularity of these events is evident and the event organizers (Hrokkvir, Aurhia and I) will have to look into splitting it up over more than one planet, similar to what TORTalk had to do back during the first year of the game.
Several dropped balls among the leadership of The True Republic throughout the leadup to this event lead to exactly zero members showing up. The one member who intended to show up Sinhez, their representative on the strike team and their guild leader, had a thunderstorm that prevented him from logging in. Compared to the turnout at the last event when I dealt with different officers, this is clearly a learning experience in which of their officers are reliable when choosing a point of contact.
I had requested a Commando to represent MEU on the strike team specifically so we would have an Electro Net to prevent Hrokkvir from using Force Barrier. The fact that he did do so and then escaped is evidence for the strike team member failing to use his Electro Net. I had suspicions that this might happen before the event and so initially wanted a Commando representative from Alpha Company as well. Unfortunately no DPS Commando showed. In retrospective I should have asked Ranque to represent us but I had expected to need him to heal.
I also failed in not accepting Mij's offer to play his Scoundrel, assuming that two scouts would be enough. In retrospective, his help would have been invaluable in helping the search for Hrokkvir as well as providing flagship summons that could have put us ahead of the Imperials during part 1 and prevented the long speeder chase that allowed Qora to escape.
Finally, after the event, several of our members expressed their displeasure at loosing which included implications that the Empire cheated or used cheap tactics. They were sternly informed that they were being sore loosers. This was one single loss compared to our long and extensive winning record. Get over it.
The following members are recommended for commendation:
All members present for this event are being recommended for the Legion of Combat by 1SG Kjvago Mahr for their exemplary ability to follow commands and execute battle procedure.
All members present for this event are being recommended for the Combined Arms Medal by 1SG Kjvago Mahr and for their exemplary conduct with outside Republic forces.
