Contact Summary:
At 1930 hours, Alpha Co. of the 203rd Republic Expeditionary Legion began a small-scale patrol in the Ken-La region on Voss, due to intelligence suggesting that there would be enemy Imperial activity in the area. Intel specifically suggested that enemy forces would be inhabiting the ruins in said region in an effort to tap into the mystical powers inherent in that area. After beginning the foot patrol at 1935 hours, the 4 troopers initially in formation began moving east from Ken-La outpost, and then north. One enemy contact, a Mandalorian mercenary, was encountered. The enemy offered no resistance at first, but was seen tracking the trooper's movements. CPL Illumori then ordered the patrol to open fire on the scout, killing him instantly.
The patrol then continued due south along the main road, encountering numerous mystical pillars that CPL Illumori suspected were involved with rituals of some sort. After some brief scanning, the patrol reformed and headed North-Northeast towards the ruins. 1SG Ricky of Ghost Squad reported that the Imperials in the ruins of the temple were conducting some sort of ritual, but maintaining their position. The patrol took cover and set up an observation post along the southern entrance to the temple ruins, utilizing a rock formation to conceal themselves. At around 2012 hours, multiple enemy contacts rode past the patrol on speeders, the troopers barely escaping death due to vast enemy numbers. 1SG Ricky then gave an accurate recon report, stating that there were at least fifteen enemy contacts, which vastly outnumbered the 8 troopers that were now participating in the patrol. After a terrain assessment, the Ghost recommended that the patrol regroup with friendly forces, and attack from the north, due to the large amount of ruins that could provide cover and concealment for the unit's advance.
After regrouping near Ken-La outpost with a member of the <Marine Expeditionary Unit> and four members of <Fox Battalion>, force evaluation showed that there were about twelve fully capable fighters in the group of sixteen. Still outnumbered with enemy reinforcements trickling in, A. Co. moved quickly and silently into the ruins to the north of the temple...
1SG Rakehell then unconcealed his position, in an attempt to bait some of the enemy contacts holed up in the temple ruins at the top of the hill. It worked. At least five Imperials gave chase to the Ghost Squad Staff NCO, chasing him down the hill into the ruins of the town...where the main force of troopers lay in wait.
With a war cry and relentless violence of action, Alpha Company and its allies sprung the trap, slaughtering the unknowing Imperials within seconds.
1SG Rakehell fell during the fighting, sustaining an enormous amount of injury and falling unconscious for a short time. His sacrifice went above and beyond the call of duty, and it is requested that he be considered for commendation. He was shortly after retrieved by an orbiting medical shuttle, revived, and dropped back off to continue the fight.
Without delay, Corporal Illumori ordered the unit to rush the hill to the temple ruins. The shock and awe of the trooper's charge was so significant, that two Imperials fell to the ground, dead, before any enemy engagement. Seeing the large force of Imperials at the other end of the temple slowed the initial charge, but after sizing up the situation, Corporal Derzis Derzelas and Sergeant Kateri Andriss ordered the vanguard troopers forward into the fray.
Upon reaching the temple ruins, the heaviest of the fighting occurred. Both enemy and friendly blaster bolts littered the air, Sith lightsabers slicing through anything they could reach. Explosions riddled the ground behind the troopers, and lightning cracked into the friendly lines. It was absolute mayhem, with both sides fighting bitterly to the end. Several troopers, including First Sergeant Kj'vago, who filled in as a second combat medic specifically for this mission, sustained severe trauma and fell during the fighting. Corporal Dronos Eos and 1st Lieutenant Zidd Decker skillfully and calmly called out firing targets for the line troopers, who made quick work of the critical personnel on the Imperial side. Sergeant Kateri Andriss showed remarkable skill in switching the targets for her shield generator, keeping her fellow troopers as safe as possible in the hail of enemy firepower. During the thickest of the fighting, a call-for-fire was made and the line of troopers unleashed their barrage of mortar volleys. Bodies of Imperials were flung every which way as the ordinance slammed into the temple floor; explosions echoing throughout the area and screams to take cover were heard too late. After the sound of the mortars subsided, a simple "Good effect" was heard over voice COMMS inside the trooper's helmets. The fight was not over yet though, and the Imperials continued to launch their attack in spite of the overwhelming amount of ordinance emptied into their lines...
The battle seemed to drag on for hours, when in fact it lasted only a few minutes. After several minutes of sustained, intense, close-quarters combat, many Imperials and Republic soldiers had fallen. With their numbers rapidly decreasing, the last few Imperials attempted to retreat, fleeing in horror at the efficiency and firepower of the relentless Republic assault. With the few remaining survivors mopped up, the objective had been taken. This skirmish proved to be a victory, and attention quickly turned to reviving and treating the injured, while at the same time recharging energy cells.
After reviving First Sergeant Kj'vago, Corporal Illumori and him began reviving and treating the wounded. Specialist Duno'van and Corporal Derzis quickly assumed a position to watch for incoming enemy contacts, providing the unit with time and peace of mind to recover. Once the combat medics had expended large amounts of kolto packs and bacta infusions, along with stimulants and adrenals to keep the soldiers numb to any pain, the units quickly assumed watch-post positions to the southern and western staircase entrances and lay in wait.
While the defensive positions were established, 1SG Ricky continued his reconnaissance operation outside the Imperial outpost, and a shuttle made its way down to the surface. As it landed, the emblem of the 203rd REL was seen painted on the side, indicating it had come from the RWS Alrek Torik, and as the stairway descended from the shuttle, Major Qorbin appeared at the doorway. He set foot on the battleground, looking around at the carnage with a stern nod of approval. He then rode off to the south, heading toward the Imperial outpost to conduct recon operations alongside 1SG Ricky. With the Major’s arrival came a welcome shipment of supplies, rations, and a notification on all of the trooper’s HUDs that Orbital Support was now in effect. After several minutes of holding position, the recon team reported that the Imperial force had started moving out.
The Imperials were seen approaching the southern stairway entrance to the temple ruins, and the troopers that were stationed along the western stairway entrance rushed over as fast as possible. Seeing the large Imperial force hastily making their way up the stairway, pushing their speeders to the limit, Corporal Illumori hid behind a pillar at the top of the stairs with the other soldiers who were stationed there. As soon as the first group of Imperials transcended the peak of the stairway, the corporal activated his concussion charge, knocking them back down the stairs to give the rest of his forces time to consolidate.
After pushing through the initial Republic defenses, the Imperial filth had gained a foothold on the entrance to the top of the hill where the temple ruins rested. It was a textbook force on force slugfest, with the Imperials superior numbers giving them a distinct advantage. Meanwhile, Major Qorbin and 1SG Ricky had joined the fray. Noticing the current dilemma, 1SG Ricky and Corporals Dronos and Illumori quickly called for a fighting withdrawal to a large stone shrine behind the trooper’s position. Several troopers were injured while covering their comrade’s retreat, including SGT Kateri, who almost fell during the fighting, and sustained a sniper blaster bolt to the abdomen, keeping her far out of the medics’ reach. Through stubborn willpower, she continued to fight and move in range of medical assistance just in time before she fell. Her sacrifice, among others, was a shining example of what the Republic looks for in a soldier, and also contributed to the unit as a whole reaching the shrine in time to turn the tide of battle.
After reaching the shrine, the medics took up positions along the elevated floor, utilizing the pillars built on the side of the shrine as cover from which to help their comrades on the field below. At this point, the feigned retreat suddenly turned into a vicious counter-attack, leaving the Imperials overstretched and over-exposed. One by one the Imperial force whittled away, with the second-wind of the troopers taking full effect. Sith of every kind descended upon the troopers with relentless aggression, slicing through duraplast and shield generators, while waves of blue blaster bolts found their way to designated targets, again due to the expert fire discipline of the 203rd. After several minutes of sustained fighting, the Imperials had been decimated, with minimal Republic casualties.
After reviving those that had fallen, and treating the wounded, Corporal Illumori then ordered the force to move out to the Imperial base. There they would lay in wait for the enemy to move out, and ambush them.
It was during this time that Kogeto, named a “General” in <Fox Battalion>’s rank structure, began to spout rhetorical nonsense about how terrain plays no part in military strategy, that hiding was a form of cowardice, and that changing tactics according to force evaluation and numbers was obsolete. After attempting to explain the logic of these things to the…General…Corporal Illumori and the rest of <Alpha Company> became uninterested and unwilling to deal with the pen-pushing officer’s antics. He was removed from the operations group, and blocked from the HUD radio frequencies being used for this particular patrol. This would not suffice to the field officer, who then utilized a general planet-wide radio frequency to express his disapproval of the action taken against him, and to insult and belittle the unit for believing in such heretical nonsense (common sense/strategy). His fellow members of <Fox Battalion> did not defend him, nor did they complain. They simply left out of respect for their comrade after several minutes of remaining in the group.
It was then that the glorious and strategically superior General ordered his men to charge the Imperial outpost. With Ghost Squad watching in horror, and perhaps while laughing, the brave soldiers of <Fox Battalion> charged the entrance of the Imperial outpost, and were instantly killed by the many Imperials and highly trained and equipped guards.
Several minutes of no enemy activity prompted the troopers of <Alpha Company> to call for shuttles to evac back to Ken-La outpost. After holding a brief formation, the troopers sent up the flare for their ride back to the RWS Alrek Torik.
Before long though, Major Qorbin made a gruesome discovery; the Imperials had waited for the troopers to leave, and then attacked Ken-La outpost itself. Several guards and civilian contractors were killed, and one transport walker had been badly damaged. Major Qorbin sent a signal to the unit’s warship, sounding red alert and a message onto the HUD of all troopers on-board. The soldiers immediately charged to the shuttle room, where they shuffled on and hooked up for a High Altitude, Low Open (HALO) insertion just outside the south-east entrance to Ken-La outpost. With a successful insertion, the troopers consolidated and prepared to move out.
With the Imperials continuing to fight the guards and celebrate their “victory” in the center of the outpost, 1LT Riike ordered the company to charge in (after some goading from Ghost and the NCOs) from the southern entrance, taking the preoccupied Imps by surprise. After storming into the huddled mass of Imperial bodies, neural surges were engaged, stunning the entire group of hostiles for a short amount of time. It was then that several NCOs and Officers simultaneously called for fire. Mortars slammed into the middle of the huddled group of enemy contacts, creating chaos and confusion, and allowing the base’s guards to press their counter-attack. As the mortars began to quiet down, the word “Beautiful” was muttered over voice COMMS.
With one last war cry and a hail of blue blaster bolts, the troopers of <Alpha Company> charged mercilessly into what remained of the Imperial line. Within a minute, all Imperialists were either dead, dying or disintegrated. Afterwards, a member of the Sith order <Reign> requested a parlay, which was handled by 1SG Kj’vago. His report on the conversation will be available on request.
