Contact Summary:
Trooper Ysmir was on assignment for Galactic Solutions Industries, attempting to gather information that would help the Republic combat domestic terrorism, when Trooper Droc called out that there are Imperials gathering around Republic controlled area. Republic forces were engaged in small skirmishes (1v1 or 2v2) across the land, with a few at the spaceport which were of no current significance. Tpr Ysmir made his way to the spaceport, where he encountered a lone Sith in the cliffside. With no other enemies in sight, the trooper established an ultimatum to the wayward sorcerer, warning him that he has two minutes to leave Republic-controlled land before Ysmir opened fire upon him. The sorcerer did not heed the trooper, and after two minutes were spent, the inexperienced Sith was nothing more than a rotting corpse. Tpr Ysmir reported the location of the Sith to other allies in the area, and continued on his way to the GSI representative in the spaceport.
Initial contact was established ten minutes later, as a large group of Imperials besieged the spaceport and its interior. Though the enemy was dispatched by allied forces, Tpr Ysmir took a defensive position at the front gate to the spaceport, where the enemy was gathering en masse. At this point, there were about six enemy signatures in the area. Tpr Ysmir called out for reinforcement, but during comms, he was hit by a sleep dart by an enemy operative, and the first skirmish began. Tpr Ysmir was set upon by Sith representing House Telvana, but despite the overwhelming odds, he not only managed to survive, but also defeated the six enemies engaged in combat with the assistance of Jedi Zmeu and Jedi Hoyt.
By the time the rest of A Coy showed up, the Sith numbers were increasing. They had taken to the farms south of the spaceport, between that and the coast, and were assaulting the various Republic forces that attempted to defend the spaceport. Despite several casualties, Republic Forces managed to maintain the perimeter and further cause mayhem to the Imperial forces, who were exploiting technical advantages within the area (Warzone popping while dead, preventing medcenter trips). The Imperials, defeated as they were, continued to taunt Republic forces until the call was made to depart from the area. Alpha Company then departed to Wardpost Landa, where Tpr. Ysmir and Freelancer Alhan responded to Tpr Droc’s call for assistance (the latter taken captive by marauding Imperial forces) at Wardpost Herne.
Soon after, a distress call over the local frequency alarmed all Republic Forces of an impending siege at Castle Panteer. Alpha Company responded immediately, taking the fight to the Imperials at Castle Panteer’s doorstep. Despite heavy casualties, Republic Forces finally took the interior of the castle and successfully defended against all known enemies, including the traitorous House Ulgo (NPC, hostile to both factions). During the battle, Tpr Ysmir contacted Jedi Master Mirmaker, of Knights of Sokan, and asked for assistance. The Knights sent seven Jedi to aid the outnumbered Republic Forces, but despite their valor and fortitude, the Imperial numbers seemed to swell even larger than before. The Imperials eventually retook the castle and pushed Republic forces back to the bridges leading up to the fortification. The onslaught, however, did not end there.
Imperial forces overran all defenses established by Alpha Company and the Republic, pushing the front line all the way back to the Panteer Refuge, north of the river. There, they besieged the operational headquarters, where many Republic men and women perished in defense. Eventually, the siege seemed to get weaker and weaker as some Imperial forces splintered off, but despite this, the Republic was hard pressed to break out of their own bottleneck.
Finally, the tide of the battle turned as more coordination between allied Republic outfits became apparent, and the Republic succeeded at driving the Imperials from their front door step. They chased the enemy across the valley to their own base, where another siege took place. The defending Imperials, however, still had the numbers and forces to mount an extraordinary defense, and the siege itself lasted about half as long as the one that preceded it. Alpha Company, exhausted by the toll of the battle, withdrew their forces soon after, and declared the battle a stalemate with a heavy Imperial bias.
At the spaceport, only three Alpha Company men were left… Maj. Qorbin, Spec. Drexxen, and Tpr. Ysmir, as well as Freelancer Alhan. They soon engaged in a dance party to the tune of, “What is Love?” performed by the intergalactic sensation, Haddaway. It was an inspiring display of Republic dominance in the art of music and dance. Many laughs were had.
Positive Points:
- The battle raged for four hours, with each side taking the castle repeatedly. Republic forces held their own against the odds until the Imperials called for backup
- Alpha Company’s reputation as an outfit that gets shit done is solidified even further. Initial contact scenario was deemed by the citizenry as “impressive” and “one Alpha Company member made the difference against House Telvana” (paraphrased, due to “l33tspeak”)
- Alliances were quick to muster; when the call was sent for help to fleet, the Knights of Sokan honored their time-bound relationship with Alpha Company and sent seven of their warriors to aid the defense.
- Definite signs of progress in hostile neutralization (PvP tactics in open world)
- No innocents were harmed in this event by Republic Forces, and no augmented forces (i.e. companions) were implemented at all by the Republic (moral victory)
- The randomness of this encounter made the battle even sweeter, even through stalemate. (This is how world pvp should happen).
- Alpha Company has demonstrated, yet again, that they will rise to the call and defend those unable to defend themselves.
Negative Points:
- Republic forces were very disorganized and individual healing suffered as a result. Further lack of a unified battle plan resulted in various vulnerabilities that the enemy quickly exploited.
- Compared to the enemy, friendly forces were outmatched in both skill and brute force (Gear and experience, numbers). Despite having sent envoys to the fleet for assistance, the request for help was met only by a few. (Event recruitment was weak and shallow. Republic Fleet was unsympathetic to the cause, for the most part)
- The enemy was able to push the Republic to the Panteer Refuge in the cliffside overlooking the castle, where they continued to assault and even infiltrate. The siege lasted much longer than the retaliatory siege by Republic forces on the other side of the Glarus Valley, which demonstrated our ineptitude of breaching and seizing a fortified position in comparison to Imperial forces. (Some of this is due to how the bases are mapped out by development [The Republic base is *much* more vulnerable])
- There were many instances of “rabbiting” (baiting by the enemy) in which several Republic players fell susceptible to enemy manipulation. Though Alpha Company was able to resist such efforts by the enemy, they were unable to persuade the citizenry of the consequences of their actions
- The world seemed to be on the verge of collapse several times during the battle (Lag spikes, game freezes, disorientation) and as a result, several members of Alpha Company, the Republic, and even the enemy, were lost in communications. These problems, however, cannot be fixed by the immediate members of the community (It’s a development problem. The game engine simply cannot support that much input)
- I ran out of Dr Pepper during the encounter. This resulted in depression and a slight sense of hopelessness.
Overall Assessment and Recommendation:
The Republic, despite being outnumbered and outgunned, managed to hold on to the battle and still present a threat. However, it was not enough to declare victory (except in morality, due to the usage of augmented forces as well as valorous defense) and was forced to concede the encounter as an Imperial-biased stalemate.
Recommend that in future battles, there should be more coordination and willingness to combine forces. If these qualities were embraced, this battle could have been much different for the Republic. The Imperials had the upper hand in this conflict not because of numbers or gear strength, but due to coordination.
Further recommendation, members commit to enhancing their own abilities and obtaining better protective armoring as well as weaponry. The more people Alpha Company can supply at equal or greater experience than the enemy, the better.
Final recommendation, Alpha Company establishes more contacts in various Republic Outfits, so that reinforcements would be easier to come by. Remember, gentlemen, your actions reflect upon Alpha Company and the rest of the Republic. When making these contacts, please be mindful of our code of conduct and our policies regarding other players. The contacts don’t need to be explicitly held to our standards (Including, but not limited to, robe-wearing sissypants) but they do need to be mindful and respectful.
